Worse still, our new management have fallen in love with off-shoring. But it's ok! We won't be affected! We'll still do the technical architecture here!
Except that we're programmers, not architects, and by "technical architecture" they really mean "design and oversight and compliance, and all the other crap that goes with making sure that the third party developers don't fuck up right roylally". Even this would be understandable - not acceptable, but understandable - if it weren't for the attitude of the senior management team. Our concerns about the workability of the idea and the affect on our jobs and careers make the plan "slightly contentious". No, you condescending twat, I'm seriously considering taking legal advice as to how significant a change to my day to day work has to be before I can start talking contractual changes, redundancy and constructive dismissal. Meanwhile, the bulk of your development department refused free drinks partly because you'd be there (and partly because the bar you chose sucks) and instead bought their own beer elsewhere, and talked about whether or not to wait the month for the bonus before resigning.
Me? I'm half tempted to stick it out to the bitter end, then potentially get legal on their arses. They want to make us consultants, so they can charge us out at an even higher rate. Well, my contract says "Senior Programmer", and I ain't signing another one, not at this company. There's a word for the situation in which a person's job no longer exists, and laws pertaining to it...
Anyway, enough of that crap, it's Saturday night, I'm getting nicely drunk and it's nearly time to go out! This is the first Saturday I've been free for ages, so I'm taking full advantage of it and going to Slimelight. Unfortunately most of my clubbing friends can't make it, but I'm not going to let that stop me from having a good time!
